Strawberries in wine is a simple traditional Italian dessert that is a refreshing finish to any meal. You can use any variety of wine you desire but I prefer a Valpolicella or a Barbera for this dessert.
The secret to this recipe is to make sure the strawberries you choose are plump and ripe. If the strawberries are not ripe they will spoil the flavor of the wine. When the strawberries marinate in the wine for a few hours they will leave a delicious mixture of flavor in the bottom of the bowl.
Serving strawberries like this to your guests will be a nice surprise. Just make sure you don’t go heavy on the wine because you don’t want to overpower the flavor of the strawberries.
INGREDIENTS
2 cups of fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of red wine
PREPARATION
Place the strawberries in a bowl.
Sprinkle with sugar.
Add the wine.
Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hour.
To serve place the strawberries in serving glasses and drizzle some of the wine over the top.
Serves 4 to 6 people
