Regina's Yummy Pasta Sauce

by Regina Hawkins

This is a recipe that has changed very little in the years I have been making it. I get tons of compliments on it and get asked to make it a few times a month I'm afraid. LOL I bring it to work potlucks and have been asked for the recipe on several occasions but have never given it out until now. My brother will buy the ingredients and bring them to me and ask me to make a batch. My daughter has been known to brag about my sauce to friends of hers and mine as well. I also do multiple lasagna nights with it. This means I make several because if certain friends and family members found out I made lasagna and didn't make enough to share I could be hurt or end up in a river with a pair of cement shoes I'm afraid. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 36oz. cans Hunts Traditional Spaghetti Sauce
  • 1 6oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 packet Thick and Zesty spaghetti sauce seasoning mix
  • 3 tablespoons chopped garlic or - 2 to 3 cloves chopped
  • 1 to 2 cups water (depends on how thick you want it)
  • 1 tablespoon powdered garlic
a few dashes crushed black pepper and sea salt
  • 4 tablespoons Italian seasoning
    a couple basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons Oregano
    4 tablespoons brown sugar
    Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 8-16oz. sliced button mushrooms (I use 16 as we love em')
  • 1 lb. ground Turkey
  • 1 lb. ground Italian Sausage (you can use ground beef also

    PREPARATION

  • Crumble and Brown the meats together in a large sauce pan using some EVOO in the pan.(If you aren't using Italian Sausage add a few dashes of Italian Seasoning to your meat for flavor.)

  • While the meat is browning you can add all the other ingredients together in a large pot and begin heating up. I use 350 and bring to a low boil and turn down to low and let simmer for about an hour or so. (It's better to let sit over night and use the next day as the flavor really sets in this way but it's just as yummy the same night)

  • Add your meat once it's done and stir in good. You also want to make sure you give it a taste and stir every 1/2 hour or so to make sure it's not too hot to cause it to boil or stick to the bottom of your pot.

  • Once done this can be used over Spaghetti or any other pasta or it makes for a very good Lasagna sauce as well.

    Mangia!
