Grandpa's Spaghetti

by Tammy Wilhelmsen

This recipe is very part of our children's heritage. My husbands grandpa would make it for all family dinners at their house. The grandchild and great grand children would eat so much of it you would think their little bellies would bust. Grandpa is gone now, but his recipe lives on. Once you have made spaghetti this way, you will have a hard time getting your kids to eat spaghetti any other way, and it is very quick to make. You won't believe what a time saver it is on a busy week night.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound of hamburger
  • 1 16oz. box of thin spaghetti or angel hair (Whichever you prefer)
  • 1 15oz can of pizza sauce
  • 1 10.2 oz can of tomato soup
  • 1/2 15oz can with water (pizza sauce)
  • 1/2 10.2 can with water (from tomato soup)
  • Kosher salt
  • Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp of onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp of seasoning salt
  • 1/4 tsp of garlic pepper mix
  • 1/4 tsp of minced onion
  • 1 tsp of oil
  • Grated Parmesan cheese ( if desired )
  • Sauteed onions ( if desired )
  • Sauteed mushrooms ( if desired )
  • Shredded cheese (optional)

    PREPARATION

  • Put on a large pot of water, salt liberally, add a tsp. of oil, and bring to boil.
  • When water has come to a boil add pasta noodles. being sure to stir noodles to avoid clumps .
  • Drain noodles when the are al dente or what i call just done.
  • Brown ground beef and add the onion powder, seasoning salt, garlic pepper mix, minced onion, salt and pepper. If ground beef is very greasy, drain part but not all.
  • Pour in the can of pizza sauce, fill half the can with water and scrape the can with the water, making sure you get all of the pizza sauce, pour over the ground beef, do the same with the can of tomato soup, making sure to scrape the can with the water to make sure you get all of the soup.
  • Bring to a simmer. The sauce will seem thin, this is the way it is supposed to look.
  • Combine the noodles with the sauce and mix together.
  • Simmer for about 5 minutes so the sauce has time to adhere to the noodles.
  • Saute mushrooms and onions in butter and set aside.
  • I do mine separately and put them in separate dishes, so that whoever whats to put them. Put the shredded cheese in a bowl and set out the Parmesan cheese for those who want it.
  • You are now ready to serve.
  • Serve with salad and garlic bread if you desire.
